What you give up by not buying Webasto or Espar

Dealer density. Webasto and Espar have service dealers at truck stops across North America and Europe. HLN has a growing dealer network and ships parts from stock, but if you run a fleet with an existing service contract at a Webasto dealer, that contract has value.
Decades of brand recognition. Eberspächer and Webasto have been in vehicle heating for most of a century. HLN is newer to the aftermarket, although its heaters are built by a genuine OEM supplier to Fortune 500 truck makers — the same kind of customer the German brands supply.
Resale familiarity. A van with "Webasto" in the listing sells itself. "HLN" still needs a sentence of explanation, which is partly what this page is for.

Certifications: the part most "alternatives" skip
This is where most Webasto alternatives quietly fall down. A Webasto or Espar heater is type-approved under ECE R122 (vehicle heating systems) and ECE R10 (electromagnetic compatibility). Most budget heaters are not, which matters if you are installing in a vehicle that gets inspected, insured for commercial use, or driven in Europe.

Compatibility with what you already have
If you are replacing an existing Espar or Webasto installation, the HLN fuel pump uses standard fittings and the Aerolyn is compatible with Eberspächer/Espar quiet fuel pumps, so an existing fuel line and pump position can usually stay.
