Short answer: E30 on an HLN coolant heater (Aquano 5K) means dry burning or poor water circulation — the burner is making heat but the coolant isn't carrying it away. Three quick checks find the cause in almost every case.

What E30 means

A coolant heater depends on moving water: the burner heats a water jacket, and the pump pushes that heat out to the vehicle's heat exchangers. If circulation stops — pump not running, a closed valve, a blocked pipe, or too little coolant — the jacket temperature spikes and the ECU shuts down with E30 before damage occurs.

Factory diagnosis

1. Is the water pump running? Listen and feel for it when the heater starts. A silent pump points to the pump or its wiring.
2. Is the circulation pipe valve open? A valve left closed after service is a classic cause.
3. Are the water pipes clear? Inspect for restricted or blocked (kinked, crushed, clogged) pipes.

FAQ

Can low coolant cause E30?
Dry burning means the heater is running without enough water carrying heat away — an underfilled or airlocked circuit behaves like a blocked one. Fill and bleed the circuit properly after any service.

Is E30 dangerous?
The shutdown exists precisely so it isn't — the ECU stops the burner before the heat does damage. But repeated dry-burn cycles are hard on the heater: fix the circulation before restarting repeatedly.

Is E30 the same on other heater brands?
No. Fault-code tables are brand-specific — this table applies to HLN heaters only.
