Bench test: 67.1% thermal efficiency — Hangin with the Hursts (US)

The reviewer ran a controlled heat-up test on the Aquano 10K coolant heater: 5 US gallons of water raised from 16.5 °C to 65 °C in 8 minutes 37 seconds, consuming 127.8 g of diesel. That works out to 7.43 kW of delivered heat and 67.1% thermal efficiency — the highest he had measured on an unmodified diesel coolant heater. For context, in the same reviewer's testing a 30 kW steel-body unit measured 32%, and a USD 1,000 9 kW aluminium-body unit measured 64%.

His teardown of the same unit found triple-density toothed heat-exchanger fins, an extended combustion chamber, dual brushless motors, and green torque-check paint marks on every bolt — evidence of per-unit QC rather than batch sampling.

Benchmarked against Webasto and Espar — Boreal Camper (Canada)

In Comparatifs chauffages diesel de 100$ a 2000$ (French with English subtitles), Boreal Camper tested diesel heaters across the full price range — from $100 Amazon units to $2,000 European brands. Their finding: the HLN Aerolyn performs at the same level as Webasto and Espar, and clearly outperforms the budget and mid-range heaters.

Noise, measured — Hangin with the Hursts (US)

In The Quietest Diesel Heater I've ever tested!, the reviewer measured the Aerolyn one foot from the hot-air outlet in a 40 dB room: 55 dB on low, 65 dB at maximum — with the combustion intake and exhaust routed inside the same room, which never happens in a real installation. That is the worst-case number; installed normally it runs quieter. His teardown found a stainless combustion chamber, an aluminium ECU cover where budget units use plastic, O-ring sealed moisture-proof connectors, and a smooth-running brushless motor.

Fuel pump noise: second only to Espar's newest S3 — Defender Canada

Defender Canada's Which Diesel Heater Pump is Worth Your Money? compared six fuel pumps. The quietest was Espar's newest-generation S3; the HLN pump came second — quieter than the older Espar pump and quieter than every "quiet pump" shipped with lower-cost heaters.

Teardown: what's inside — David McLuckie (UK)

David McLuckie (UK, 64K subscribers) tore down the Aerolyn 2kW and its motor assembly. Findings: a finely machined brushless motor that spins smoothly for long-term stable operation; a glass-reinforced-plastic (GRP) housing; waterproof ECU and harness connectors; a combustion chamber that a magnet test showed to be high-performance alloy, noticeably heavier than cheap heaters; a detachable fuel-pump connector that makes routing through van floors easy; and a cleanly finished heat exchanger with integrated body and air temperature sensors.

Better than Amazon-brand and Lavaner heaters

Van Life UK — A Complete Survivors Guide (UK) compared the Aerolyn 2kW against Lavaner's entire air-heater range, including their flagship Lavaner Pro Max, covering both the heater and the supplied accessories. Conclusion: HLN quality is higher across the board. The same channel features HLN in its Chinese Diesel Heater Buyers Guide 2023/2024.

Ryan Fox (truckingandfixing, US) compared the Aerolyn bunk heater against a typical Amazon unit for semi trucks: far higher accessory quality, an integrated muffled intake/exhaust system that installs easily and runs quiet, durable materials, a long-life brushless fan, and wiring harnesses with protective loom that meets truck installation requirements.

Hydronic: HLN Aquano vs Webasto Thermo Top Evo — Ovens Garage (US)

Ovens Garage put the Aquano coolant heater head-to-head against Webasto's Thermo Top Evo. Verdict: both are excellent choices with fine build quality and readily available parts — the HLN puts out slightly more heat and costs considerably less, making it a strong alternative and competitor to Webasto and Eberspacher.

Real-world winter: off-grid in Canada — Kevin Wald (Canada)

Kevin Wald (57K subscribers) ran the Aerolyn 4KW off-grid through a Canadian winter: very quiet, impressive part and connector quality, thermostatic auto on/off, a handy ventilate mode, and automatic altitude compensation. The thermostat drops to fan level 1 within 2 degrees C of the set temperature — avoiding constant restarts and saving fuel and power. Fuel consumption impressed him, and the Bluetooth app got a thumbs-up.
