What is the difference between HLN WiFi and Bluetooth controllers, 2025
HLN air and hydronic heaters can connect to a phone APP called Smart Life, so you can control your heater from your phone. The HLN control panel itself has all the control functions. The phone APP provides an option for you to control the heater remotely.

The WiFi version of the controller needs a WiFi environment for the heater. First, from the control panel, hit ‘Reset’ under ‘WiFi’ section. Then from the phone APP, you can find the heater, and it would ask you to choose network and input the pass code. After the connection, you can control the heater via your phone regardless of the distance. Your phone can be on a different WiFi network from your heater.

The Bluetooth version only needs you to turn the Bluetooth function on from your phone. Then the phone APP should be able to fine your heater. But there is a distance limit for the connection to the heater from your phone. It is usually around 30ft/10m, which also relates to the building you are in and the location where the heater is.
Another difference of the two types of controllers is, from phone APP, the WiFi version you can set the ‘Timer’ function; but the Bluetooth version cannot set the ‘Timer’ function as of 2025. This is because when using the APP, the ‘Timer’ signal would send from the phone independently of the control panel. The Bluetooth version limited by distance has the risk of not being able to control the heater from the location you are in.
The characteristics of the WiFi vs Bluetooth controllers apply to both HLN Aerolyn air heaters and Aquano hydronic heaters.
